Series in progress
On Motherhood
On Motherhood is a “series in progress” documenting the world through my motherhood lens.
In my experience, once you’re a mom, it is the lens through which you experience life. Three years in and I am just starting to learn about the woman I’ve become.
This series isn’t a celebration of motherhood. It is my oil painted documentary, your invitation to view the world through this mother's eyes.
Through my paintings, I explore the moments of motherhood: from a child’s exhaustion through his mom’s lens to redefining what it meanns to be you.
My perspective is shaped by a constant duality: city and suburb, uncouth and classy, spirituality and science. Through these experiences I work to understand parenting, community, gender, race, privilege, and identity.
At its core, On Motherhood is about what matters to me now that I am a mom. It is the visual journal of the chaos, exhaustion, hope, fear, and love I experience while I am becoming.
